Coach Jeff Kieffer has coached baseball for over 30 years and has been coaching baseball at Evangelical Christian School for 25 years. During his years at ECS, Coach Kieffer has won 7 district championships (1993, 2001, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2011, 2012), has been regional runner-up 2 times (2001 & 2007), and has competed in the Fhsaa playoffs multiple years as district runner-up.
Coach Kieffer is a graduate of LeTourneau University in Longview, Texas, where he received his BA in Business Administration and his BS in Physical Education. Coach Kieffer played baseball at LeTourneau University and he was NAIA All-District in 1982. Coach Kieffer is married to his wife, Beth, and he has two children, Zak and Jessie.
Varsity Girls Basketball – Head Coach – Brit Foshee
This is Coach Brit Foshee’s first year coaching the girl’s varsity basketball team but he is no stranger to coaching at ECS.
Coach Foshee graduated from ECS in 2003 and immediately began coaching both football and boy’s JV and Varsity basketball.
He was a part of the Varsity football’s 9-3,10-2, 10-1 seasons. In 2011 he helped coach the sentinels to a 10-0 regular season. He helped coach the offense that generated over 42 points per game that season.
In 2012 The Lord directed Coach Foshee to take a ministry position in Palm Beach Gardens at First Presbyterian Church of North Palm Beach. He served there over four years and during his final year in West Palm Beach he was the Girl’s Varsity basketball coach at Berean Christian.
At Berean, Coach Foshee led the sophomore heavy team to a 16-8 record, setting the school record for consecutive wins (12) and eventually becoming the district runner up and finally advancing to the regional final game.
Coach was married in 2015 and made the move back to Fort Myers where he was eager to get back involved at ECS.
He spends most his time investing in local real estate as a buy and hold investor as well as a fix and flipper.
Varsity Boys Basketball – Head Coach – Brian Lusco
Coach Brian Lusco is in his 4th year as varsity boys basketball head coach and his 9th year overall coaching basketball at Evangelical Christian School. During his years as head coach, Coach Lusco helped the Sentinels boys basketball team reach the district championship in back-to-back years (2014 & 2015), which was a program first. As an assistant coach under head coach Larry Gritton, Coach Lusco helped the Sentinels clinch their 2nd boys basketball district championship in history of the program (2011). Coach Lusco has also been instrumental in coaching multiple basketball players who have been selected for the Southwest Florida Basketball All-Star game. These players have included: Cj Jones (Malone University), Jared Pearlman (Covenant University), and Caleb Chapman (Akron University – football). Coach Lusco has also helped many basketball players break records that he once held himself. These record breaking athletes coached by Coach Lusco include Cody Rabold (ECS single-season assist leader) and Jacob Truitt (ECS single-season 3-pt leader).
Coach Lusco is an alumni of Evangelical Christian School. As a student-athlete at ECS, Coach Lusco set multiple career and single-season records; many which still stand. Coach Lusco still holds the career record in both assists and 3-pt shots. While he was a player at ECS, Coach Lusco set single-season records in both assists and 3-pt shots. Coach Lusco is still in the top ten scorers in ECS history. As a senior at ECS, Coach Lusco played in the Southwest Florida Basketball All-Star game under his head coach Nate Travis.
Coach Lusco is a graduate of Florida Gulf Coast University earning a degree in Finance with a minor in Psychology. Coach Lusco currently works as a financial planner and accountant. Coach Lusco is married to his wife, Rachael.
Varsity Cross Country – Head Coach – Wes Penberthy
Coach Wes Penberthy is in his 4th year as head coach of the Sentinels Cross Country team (6 years overall) and also in his 6th year as the distance coach for the track & field team. During his time coaching cross country, Coach Penberthy has trained numerous individual district champions, state qualifiers, and 1 state champion (Sarah Candiano – 2015). Coach Penberthy prides himself on the team success that the cross country teams have had during his time coaching. The girls cross country team has been 3 time district runner-up and finished 3rd in the state in 2014, while the boys won 1 district championship in Coach Penberthy’s 6 years.
In track & field, Coach Penberthy serves as the distance coach under head coach Chris Patrick. Coach Penberthy’s involvement in the track program has been instrumental in multiple state champion’s careers; including: Sarah Candiano (5 time overall state champion), Sierra Oliveira (2016 – 800m state champion), and Moriah Oliveira (2016 – 400m state champion).
Coach Penberthy is an alumni of Evangelical Christian School. As a student-athlete at ECS, Coach Penberthy set school records in the 4×400, 4×800, 1600, 3200, and 5k. After graduating high school, Coach Penberthy competed at the collegiate level at Gillette College.
Coach Penberthy is a graduate of Southern New Hampshire University where he earned a degree in Sports Management with a concentration in Business.
Coach Tyler Gold is in his 4th year as Head Coach and 13th year coaching overall for the Sentinels Football team. Coach Gold served as the Sentinels Offensive Line Coach in 2002-2004 & 2007-2010 under Head Coach Brian Lynch. In 2011, Coach Gold became the Sentinels Offensive Coordinator under Coach Lynch. It was during this year that the Sentinels went 10-0 in the regular season and put up record breaking numbers in passing, receiving, rushing, and scoring. Overall, in his years coaching, Coach Gold has been involved in 8 FHSAA playoff teams, including 3 District Champions.
Coach Gold is an alumni of Evangelical Christian School. As an ECS student-athlete, Coach Gold played on the first Sentinels Football team as a freshmen (’98) and the school’s first District Championship team as a senior (’01). In his years playing football at ECS, Coach Gold’s claim to fame is blocking for NFL player Corey Lynch. The team posted their best record to date in Coach Gold’s senior year (12-2) and made it to the Fhsaa Regional Finals where the team lost to powerhouse Ft. Meade.
Coach Gold is a graduate of Florida Gulf Coast University where he earned his B.A. Degree in History. Currently Coach Gold serves as the Athletic Director at ECS. Prior to being the AD, Coach Gold taught History and Bible in the Upper School. Coach Gold is married to his wife, Allison, and has two children, Caleb (2) and Austin (<1)
Coach Steve Magner has been coaching soccer for 14 years and he has been coaching at Evangelical Christian School for the past 8 years. While at ECS, Coach Magner was the middle school girls head coach for 3 years, the varsity girls assistant coach for 1 year, and he has served as the varsity girls head coach for the past 4 years. Prior to his years at ECS, Coach Magner coached recreational soccer for the Christian Soccer Association and also for the North Ft. Myers Knights. Coach Magner also coached multiple competitive club soccer programs at ICSA, NFM Knights, and Florida Fire.
Coach Magner has been very successful in his 4 years as the varsity girls head coach. Under Coach Magner, the Sentinels girls soccer team reached the state finals in his first year as head coach (2013). Overall the team has won 1 regional championship (2013), has been regional runner-up 3 times (2014, 2015, & 2016), and has 2 district championships (2013 & 2016). In his 4 years, Coach Magner has an overall record of 72-17-2 with a district record of 43-3.
Coach Magner prides his program on the idea of being a team that is a family unit. Coach Magner uses the sport of soccer to teach his athletes about successes, losses, and the importance of team unity. This great team chemistry has been evident and has produced multiple high caliber athletes. A few examples of the program’s high caliber players includes: Haley Pigott – signed with D1 Jacksonville University (News Press Player of the Year & News Press 1st Team), Kylee Rullo – signed with D2 Palm Beach Atlantic (News Press 1st Team in both Junior/Senior years), and Kianna Magner – signed with D2 Palm Beach Atlantic (News Press 2nd Team in both Junior/Senior years).
Coach Magner is a graduate of St. Cloud State University, MN with a BS in Business Management with an emphasis in Risk Management and Insurance and a minor in Business Computer. Coach Magner is the owner of Coral Isle Builders. Coach Magner is married to his wife, Sue, and has four children who all attend(ed) ECS.
Coach Theresa Kabel has coached volleyball for 14 years with 12 of those years being at Evangelical Christian School. As the head coach of the varsity volleyball team, Coach Kabel has coached 1 state semi-finalist team/regional champion, 1 regional runner-up team, and 2 district championship teams. As an assistant coach, Coach Kabel helped the program win 9 straight district championships. During that run of district championships, the ECS volleyball program won 2 state championships (2005 & 2007), appeared in 2 state finals (2006 & 2011), and appeared in 2 regional finals (2009 & 2010).
Coach Kabel is a graduate of Gardner-Webb University with a BS in Business and a minor in MIS. Coach Kabel received a full scholarship for basketball at Gardner Webb and she also played volleyball as a preferred walk-on. Coach Kabel played 4 years as a dual-sport athlete in college and still holds multiple records for blocking. As a high school student-athlete, Coach Kabel won the 3a volleyball state championship in North Carolina in both her junior and senior year. As a senior in high school, Coach Kabel also won the 3a softball state championship and she was a part of the basketball regional finalist team. Coach Kabel is a stay at home mother to 3 children.
Coach Jeff Malavsky has been involved in the sport of wrestling since 1975. Coach Malavsky has been coaching since 1985, and he has spent the last 12 years building the Sentinels Wrestling program. During his years at ECS, Coach Malavsky has coached multiple district and regional champions, as well as multiple regional and state placers.
Coach Malavsky was a well celebrated and distinguished high school and collegiate wrestler. Coach Malavsky was blessed with the opportunity to coach, train, and compete with multiple members of the 1980, 1984, and 1988 Olympic Wrestling teams. Coach Malavsky is married to his wife Kelli (25 years), and has 2 sons, Samuel and Matthew.
