Music

Music Instruction: ECS offers music lessons to students in two formats: Private Lesson (One 30 minute

lesson per week - individual student), Music Class (One 40 minute lesson per week - multiple students).

 

 null Beginning Strings: (Grades 3 and 4) This  entry-level music instruction class is for students who want to play violin, viola, cello, and string bass.

 

  ECS Drumline: Admission into this after school elective is by
audition and director approval. The select percussion students meet weekly
to develop proper playing technique, mastery of rudiments, music reading,
and ensemble playing of marching percussion. Students perform with members
of the Sentinel Symphonia and the ECS Symphonic Band & Orchestra to form
the ECS Drumline, and as an ensemble in several concert performances and
sporting events during the school year.
 null Beginning Band: (Grade 4) This is an entry-level music instruction class for students seeking to play a band instrument (woodwind, brass or percussion).
 null Sentinel Symphonia: (Grades 5 and 6) This course is designed for students who have completed the Beginning Strings or Beginning Band course, or have achieved equivalent proficiency.

 

 null Young Sentinel Singers: (Grades 5 and 6) This choral group is open to students who enjoy singing.
  ECS Concert Band & Orchestra: (Grades 7 and 8) The goal of this course is for the intermediate-level students of orchestral instruments to study and perform a wide variety of music.
  Sentinel Concert Choir: (Grades 7 and 8) The goal of this course is for the student to develop his singing ability and musicianship in the choral setting.
  ECS Symphonic Band & Orchestra: (Grades 9 through 12) The goal of this course is for the advance-level students of orchestral instruments to study and perform a wide variety of music.
  Masterpiece Chorale: (Grades 9 through 12) In this advanced-level choir, students develop proper vocal technique, choral technique, and music reading.
 

 Sentinel Sounds: (Grades 9 through 12) This audition-only ensemble meets weekly, after school, to develop challenging a Capella jazz arrangements for performance and competition.
  Basic Music Theory: (Grades 9 through 12)  The goal of this course is for the student to learn the fundamental concepts of musical composition.
  Introduction to the Arts: (Grade 10) The goal of this course is for the student to observe and identify the common elements in the visual and performing arts and how they reflect values of different cultural and historic periods.

 

 

 


THEATER

 

  Acting Up!: (Grades 5 and 6) This is an entry level course for students seeking to learn the art of acting.
  Act I: (Grades 7 and 8) In this intermediate-level class students will be trained in dramatic skills from the audition to the final performance.
 

 Act II: (Grades 9 through 12) This advanced-level class will develop the serious drama students'  dramatic skills while exploring the literature, history and details of professional theater.

 

 

 

 

ART

 Art: (Grades 5 and 6) In this class the students will learn the basic techniques of drawing, watercolor, design, and collage.  
 

 Art: (Grades 7 and 8) Students in this course will develop their artistic skills in drawing/shading (4 basic, 3-D forms) and painting (watercolor and acrylic).
  Art: (Grades 9 through 12)  While developing their artistic skills of drawing, painting (watercolor & acrylic), mixed-media, clay, collage, paper mache, linoleum, and block printing, these student-artists will be given the challenge to document the times in which they live through their artwork.
  

Portfolio Artists: (Grades 9 through 12) This is a select group of students who excel, not only in Art, but also in character.
