Mrs. Ragsdale
This is my third year teaching at ECS. I was born and raised in Fort
Myers. I have been married for over 4 years. I have a son, Hunter, who
will be 3 in the fall and a daughter, Addyson who is 7 months. I received
my Associates degree from Edison College and transferred to Florida Gulf
Coast University. I studied in the College of Education and received my
Bachelor of Arts in Special Education with an ESOL endorsement in December
of 2005. After graduating, I spent a year and a half teaching as an
Inclusion Teacher in Collier County. I currently hold my Florida
Teacher’s Certificate. I thank God for the opportunity to be able to
teach in a Christian school, where I can spread the love of Jesus Christ.
This year I will be teaching Bible, Math, and Spelling.
Saxon Math 6/5
The first part of the curriculum is review from the previous year, such as
addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. If your child is
struggling with the basic facts, please make it a priority to practice
every night. This will help them finish the homework faster in class and
have less to bring home. Each night the homework consists of about 30
review problems. It is imperative that they do their homework every
night. On their homework they must show all their work and circle the
answer to the problem. If your child maintains a notebook in class every
day, they will be successful this year as they learn a new math curriculum
and new math concepts. This notebook will be modeled in class, so that
they have exact direction. Second Semester is when the math concepts
become more difficult, but if the students follow my direction in keeping
the notebook and writing everything down, they will be very successful in
learning and achieving good grades. I am looking forward to working with
each student and helping them in any way I can to succeed! I can’t wait to
see the progress that each student will make!
Bible
Fifth graders will study God’s Word through the vehicle of Bible telling.
They will be taught stories from the Old Testament. Many are stories they
heard since they were young. The curriculum is divided into four
different books that the students work from. The first book discusses
Creation through to the story of Rebekah. The second nine week textbook
covers the story of Isaac and Esau to the Passover. The third nine week
period covers stories such as the Red Sea, The Tabernacle, and the
Anointing of David. The final text covers stories dealing with the City
of David, Solomon, Daniel, Rebuilding of the Temple, and finishes up
with the story of Nehemiah. While the curriculum covers many familiar
stories from the Old Testament, they are personalized through story
telling, dramas, storyboard drawings, compact discs of each story to
listen to, and activities to enhance the overall study of scriptures.
Spelling (Homeroom Only)
Students are given a new list of spelling and vocabulary words with
definitions to learn each week. These lists can be found in the spelling
book and on the weekly study guides. Definitions should be memorized in
addition to learning how to spell each word on the list. Pretests will be
given to help identify words your child is likely to misspell. Homework
will be to correctly write every word two times each OR only write
misspelled words on the pretest five times each. Parents must sign the
pretest, and the student will return it with the homework for a grade.
Written tests are given weekly. In the fifth grade, less emphasis and time
is spent helping the students learn how to spell the words in class. This
is something each child is expected to do on his/her own at home.
