Theater Course Descriptions

THEATER


Acting Up!: (Grades 5 and 6) This is an entry level course for students seeking to learn the art of acting. Students learn basic performance skills through games, improvisational activities, and simple scripts. Performances are considered a part of the course.  Students will also be encouraged to compete, individually, in an annual FACCS (Florida Association of Christian Colleges and Schools) competition.

 

Act I: (Grades 7 and 8) In this intermediate-level class students will be trained in dramatic skills from the audition to the final performance. Students will explore a range of theatrical pieces and styles in an effort to improve performance skills. Homework may involve memorization of lines and some quizzes may be given. Performances are considered a part of the course.  Students will also be encouraged and coached to compete, individually, in an annual FACCS (Florida Association of Christian Colleges and Schools) competition.

 

Act II: (Grades 9 through 12) This advanced-level class will develop the serious drama students'  dramatic skills while exploring the literature, history and details of professional theater. Additionally, students will develop their technical theater skills in areas such as writing, producing and directing. Homework will involve memorization of lines and quizzes will be given.  This is a performance oriented class and participation in performances is required.  Students will also be encouraged and coached to compete, individually, in an annual FACCS (Florida Association of Christian Colleges and Schools) competition.
