CLASS RANK
ECS selects a valedictorian and salutatorian at the completion of 12th grade. In the selection process, Advanced Placement and Honor Courses are given a priority. To determine the GPA for general purposes and for class ranking, the Value Point System is used. However, for the determination of the Valedictorian and Salutatorian, the process is more refined. Distinction is made between high and low grades within a given category. Students must be enrolled at ECS for at least 4 semesters to be considered for Valedictorian and Salutatorian.
DIPLOMAS
To receive a diploma, a student must successfully complete 26 credits with the minimum subjects:
4 English, 4 Math, 4 Science, 3.5 Social Studies, 4 Biblical Studies (depending on years attending ECS), 2 Foreign Language, 1.5 Physical Education, 4
Electives (if Foreign Language is not taken, then you will need to add 2 additional electives).
Note: Foreign Language - two credits in the same language are required for admission into the state university system of Florida.
Two Tracks of Study are offered at ECS. One track allows a student to qualify for The Florida Bright Futures Scholarship Program, the other track does not.
ADVANCED PLACEMENT
The Advanced Placement Program, a cooperative educational endeavor between secondary schools and colleges and universities, allows high school students to undertake college level academic learning courses and gives them the opportunity to show they have mastered the advanced material by taking AP exams. Students can receive credit, advanced placement, or both, from hundreds of colleges and universities that participate in the AP Program.
DUAL ENROLLMENT
Students who meet the school requirements may participate in Dual Enrollment at Edison College after school, on Saturday, or during the summer. All courses must be approved by the Administration.
CREDIT IN ESCROW
Students may participate in Credit in Escrow at Edison College if classes are taken after school, on Saturday, or during the summer. Credit in Escrow is college credit earned and held for later application or used by a student prior to graduation from high school, with recommendations from the Administration. Following validation of high school graduation, credits may be applied to an Associate Degree, a vocational certificate, or transferred to another college.
TESTING REQUIREMENTS FOR POST SECONDARDY
Students will be offered many opportunities to test and prepare for SAT and ACT testing. Sophomore and Juniors take the PSAT each October and Sophomores take the PLAN each fall. Testing dates are posted and students should schedule testing early enough to apply to colleges and universities if they are considering scholarships. Students should consider taking the SAT/ACT Tests as early as possible, preferably during their junior year, to insure ample opportunity for retesting and improving their scores.
CLEP TESTING
The heart of CLEP is a series of examinations, each 90 minutes long, that allow you to demonstrate your knowledge in a wide range of subjects. You are recognized and rewarded for what you know. CLEP can help you get the college credits needed to reach your goals more quickly. You can choose from five General Examinations and 30 Subject Examinations. CLEP is a great way to bypass introductory classes and save time and money getting your degree.
