HIGH SCHOOL NEWS

STUDENT ATTENDANCE

A missed school day is a missed opportunity for learning. PLEASE ensure that your student is in school unless they absolutely cannot be.

The school year is quickly coming to a close. According to the Parent/Student Handbook that was signed at the beginning of the year, If a student accrues 10 or more absences (excused or unexcused) in a semester, in any class, extra work will be given for the student to complete in order for him/her to pass the class. The amount of work given will depend upon the number of absences. Failure to complete the additional work before the end of the semester will constitute a failure for the semester.

Seniors who are impacted by this attendance policy will be notified via email in the coming days with details. All other high school students with excessive absences will be notified in the coming weeks.

I encourage you to check Renweb if you are in need of exact and up-to-date attendance information for your student(s). If you believe there is an error in your student’s attendance record, please reach out to Mrs. Allen in Student Services (callen@goecs.org). Please be aware that if your student is benefiting from the Florida Tax Credit Scholarship, school attendance is audited each year and attendance records are submitted at that time.

FROM THE DEANS’ DESKS

This is a reminder that we will be taking an end-of-year field trip to Busch Gardens. This is a privilege available to students who have received zero detentions for the second semester and are in good behavioral standing with the Deans (no detentions/suspensions).

This trip will take place on the last day of school, Wednesday, May 29th. The cost of the trip is $150. This will cover the cost of park admission, an all-day dining pass for food and beverage, transportation via charter bus to and from the park. Permission slips are available at the High School Office. Forms with payment (cash or check made payable to ECS) should be returned to the High School Desk no later than Wednesday, May 1st.

Reserve your spot!!!

COUNSELOR’S CORNER

The counselors will be visiting each 9th, 10th and 11th grade Bible class in the next few weeks. An email will go home to the families the day the counselors are in the classroom so you can follow up with your student in regards to their Pre-ACT, PSAT, ACT, ASVAB results, depending on what they completed this year. The counselors will be reviewing how transcripts are laid out, how GPA is calculated, and Florida Bright Futures will be reviewed as well.

POMP AND CIRCUMSTANCE

Graduation will be held on Friday May 17 @ 7pm at First Christian Church in Fort Myers. Doors will open at 6pm. This is NOT a ticketed event. Seating is on a first come basis.

FINAL EXAMS

Seniors, you should have received an email with details regarding your final exams which will be May 13-15. Spanish and ASL final exams will be administered on Wednesday, May 8th, during Spanish or ASL class, respectively. Please refer to the email for details.

Final exams for all other high school students will take place May 22-24, with makeup exams scheduled for May 28. All work must be completed by May 28. An exam schedule for students in grades 9-11 will be coming soon.

Smartwatches will not be allowed to be worn during any final exam testing.
