Evangelical Christian School (High School) is home to Troupe #7624 of The International Thespian Society (ITS). Through participation in performing arts classes, productions, FACCS and ITS district competions theater students earn membership in this prestigious honor society.
Grades 5 & 6
Acting Up! is an entry-level course for students seeking to learn the art of acting. Students learn basic performance skills through games, improvisational activities, and simple scripts.
Performances are considered a part of the course, including sketches for the weekly Lower School chapel activity. Students are also encouraged to compete, individually, in an annual FACCS (Florida Association of Christian Colleges and Schools) competition. Members of Acting Up! are invited to audition for the Fine Arts Department’s annual spring musical.
Grades 7 & 8
In this intermediate-level class students are trained in dramatic skills from the audition to the final performance. Students explore a range of theatrical pieces and styles in an effort to improve performance skills. Homework may involve memorization of lines and some quizzes may be given.
Performances are considered a part of the course, as well as participation in the Fine Arts Department’s spring musical. Students will also be encouraged and coached to compete, individually, in an annual FACCS (Florida Association of Christian Colleges and Schools) competition.
Grades 9-12
This advanced-level class develops the serious drama students’ dramatic skills while exploring the literature, history and details of professional theater. Additionally, students develop their technical theater skills in areas such as writing, producing and directing. Homework involves memorization of lines and quizzes are given.
This is a performance oriented class and participation in performances is required, including the Fine Arts Department’s spring musical. Students will also be encouraged and coached to compete, individually, in an annual FACCS (Florida Association of Christian Colleges and Schools) competition as well as local ITS (International Thespian Society) competitions.
