GRADE 6
In this class, students explore foundational techniques in drawing, watercolor, design, and collage, while learning the Elements of Design. They also create three-dimensional projects using paper to develop spatial awareness and creativity.
Students are encouraged to showcase their talents by participating in local art contests and the annual FACCS Fine Arts Competition.
GRADES 7 and 8
Students in this course advance their artistic skills through drawing and shading (focusing on the four basic 3D forms) and painting with watercolor and acrylic. They study the Elements and Principles of Design and create three-dimensional projects using materials like clay and paper mâché.
On alternating years, the second semester focuses on Cartooning, where students develop original characters and create their own comics.
Participation in local art contests and the annual FACCS Fine Arts Competition is encouraged.
GRADES 9-12
In this course, student-artists refine their skills in drawing, painting (watercolor & acrylic), mixed media, clay, collage, paper mâché, linoleum, and block printing. They are challenged to document the times they live in through their art, encouraging personal expression and cultural awareness.
The curriculum also includes Architecture and Fashion Design, broadening their creative scope. Students display their work in local art shows, take part in field trips, and are encouraged to enter both community contests and the annual FACCS Fine Arts Competition.
Portfolio Artists(Grades 9-12)
This course is reserved for a select group of students who demonstrate excellence in both artistic ability and character. To qualify for Portfolio Art, students must either:

Successfully complete at least one quarter of high school Art at ECS, or

Submit a portfolio or substantial body of work with a recommendation from a former art teacher.
Portfolio Art provides advanced students the opportunity to further develop their skills, creativity, and personal artistic voice in preparation for exhibitions, competitions, and potential college applications.
