Knowing Christ

and Growing in Christ

Jesus told His disciples the night before he would die on the cross what it meant to know God and to be in a right relationship with Him for all of eternity. In His prayer Jesus prayed that we would truly understand what it meant to have eternal life:

“This is eternal life: that they may know you, the only true God, and the one you have sent – Jesus Christ.” – John 17:3 (CSB)

In light of that, it is our heart’s desire at Evangelical Christian School to do everything to point students to knowing Christ and then growing into the image of Christ. This fits with our mission motto to:

“Make Disciples, Be Disciples”

Education that is distinctively Christian will be intentional about incorporating Biblical truth into everything we teach and do. The four pillars of growth in Christ at ECS are:

  1. Biblical Authority

  2. Heart Transformation

  3. Christlike Living

  4. Serving Christ and Others

Chapel

“The purpose of ECS chapel is to spur one another towards knowing and growing in Christ through the faithful preaching of the Word and dynamic and Word-centered worship.”

Chapel is a vital part of ECS, complementing a student’s academic and spiritual experience, and providing the campus community with a dynamic worship experience. Every Wednesday (lower and middle school) and Thursday (high school), students, faculty, and staff gather for a time centered on the preaching of Scripture and dynamic Christ-centered worship through music. Speakers include pastors, missionaries, faculty members, Christian leaders, and students. We spend much time in prayer and preparation for our weekly chapel services.

Spiritual Growth Opportunities

Weekly Bible studies are led by both teachers and students for the purpose of growing in our relationship with Scripture, God, and encouraging one another in our walk with the Lord.

All students and faculty gather once a week for chapel. The service is structured much like a church service with prayer, music, and the Biblically rich sermons that target the heart.

High school students of all ages are offered retreats that provide a more focused time away from the typical distractions of life for a more intentional time of prayer, praise, devotions, and the preaching of the Word. This also gives students time to reflect on their spiritual goals for the glory of God.

The purpose of “Recharge” is threefold – To maximize our students’ exposure to the truth of the Word. To emphasize the importance of our heart’s response to God’s truth. To realize that the gospel of Jesus Christ brings real hope, grace, and change to the real struggles we face and sins we commit. Every semester we take a few days of extended chapel to emphasize the importance of corporate worship, prayer, and the hope and change God’s sufficient Word gives.

God’s Word provides real truth and real hope for those with hurts and struggles. Our students have the opportunity to get both help and hope from trained and certified Biblical counselors who are ready to give compassionate, hopeful, and more than anything Biblically saturated hope for their struggles.
