Head Varsity Football Coach
Mack Mitchell
A dedicated servant-leader with a passion for developing young men, Coach Mack Mitchell brings expert coaching, character-building, and deep-rooted faith to ECS football. A native of Fort Myers, Mitchell began playing at age 10 and was a standout defensive back at Mariner High School. His athletic journey continued at Walsh University, where he earned All-Conference honors in 2000 and 2001 and helped lead the team to a conference championship in 2002 under Hall of Fame coach Jim Dennison.
Following his college career, Mitchell transitioned into coaching, starting at Walsh University in 2004 as defensive backs coach. He later taught and coached multiple sports at Mariner Middle and North Fort Myers High School. In 2017, his North Fort Myers defense recorded five shutouts, allowed only 6.4 points per game, and completed an undefeated regular season. He then revitalized subordinate programs at Oasis High School, turning a winless team into a 5–4 playoff contender and achieving a top-three state ranking early in his tenure.
Since taking the helm at ECS in 2022, Mitchell’s influence has been transformative:
-
2022: Shared ECS’s first district title in over a decade and finished with a perfect 7–0 record—the only undefeated team in Southwest Florida.
-
2023: Led the Sentinels to a 6–5 overall record with a perfect 2–0 district record, earning a district title and playoff berth.
-
2024: Guided ECS to a 4–7 season finish while capturing 1st place in District 1A (1–0).
Mitchell emphasizes a Christ-centered culture of discipline, unity, and hard work:
“Football is more than just a game—it’s a platform to build character, instill values, and glorify Christ in all we do.”
His program has also seen success advancing players—Coach Mitchell has helped send over 30 student-athletes on athletic scholarships, including two to the NFL.
Off the field, Mitchell serves the community through his role as Track & Field Head Coach, and continues to mentor students in leadership and faith. Residing in Cape Coral with his wife, Sara, and their four children, Coach Mitchell remains committed to building a lasting legacy of excellence, integrity, and servant leadership with the ECS Sentinels.
