Derek Washington Sr.

Coach Derek Washington leads ECS Wrestling with enthusiasm, expertise, and a genuine love for the sport—committed to raising athletes who excel on the mat and grow spiritually and ethically in their everyday lives.

2025 Season Highlights & Program Success

In the 2025 season, ECS finished 6th out of 34 teams at the District Tournament, sending four wrestlers to the FHSAA State Championships under Coach Washington’s direction—a strong testament to the program’s upward trajectory. Among them was standout athlete Derek Washington, Jr., who won his district title at 190 lbs, placed third at Regionals, and earned praise throughout the season with 36 match wins.

Although the program didn’t secure a regional title, these performances marked the team’s most competitive postseason appearance in recent memory—showcasing Coach Washington’s ability to elevate talent and prepare wrestlers to compete under pressure.

Leadership & Coaching Philosophy

Coach Washington believes wrestling is as much about mental discipline and integrity as it is about physical toughness. His philosophy emphasizes preparation, perseverance, sportsmanship, and spiritual grounding. Under his mentorship, wrestlers learn to carry the values of the Lord into their victories and daily lives.
