Girls Varsity Basketball Coach
Dwayne Donnell

With more than two decades of coaching experience and over 500 career wins, Coach Dwayne Donnell stands as one of the most accomplished girls basketball coaches in Florida high school history. A member of the Lee County Athletic Conference Hall of Fame, Donnell brings championship pedigree and a powerful, faith-driven philosophy to the ECS Lady Sentinels.

Championship Pedigree

Coach Donnell’s legendary coaching journey began at Dunbar High School, where he led the girls basketball program for 21 seasons. There, he built a perennial powerhouse, capturing the 2012 FHSAA Class 4A State Championship and multiple Final Four appearances. His teams became known for their discipline, defensive intensity, and relentless effort—principles that continue to define his leadership.

In 2021, he took over as head coach at Evangelical Christian School, immediately setting a new standard. Just three years later, he guided ECS to its first-ever girls basketball state title, winning the 2024 FHSAA Class 2A Championship with a dominant 26–3 record. The team defeated Central Florida Christian Academy 57–46 in the title game and averaged a 30-point margin of victory throughout the season.

In 2025, ECS returned to the Final Four for a third straight season, solidifying its place as one of Florida’s elite small-school programs under Donnell’s direction.

“Winning is the only option. And it has nothing to do with sports… When things arise in your life, you find a way to win,” Coach Donnell told WGCU after the title win.
